Some places announce themselves the moment you step through the door. Starrett House is one of them.


Tucked along the coast in Port Orchard, Washington, this historic Victorian bed and breakfast has been welcoming guests from far and wide, and it does so with the kind of charm you can't fake. Antique draperies fall in soft, heavy folds beside sitting chairs that look like they have heard a hundred years of good conversation. Every room has been beautifully restored, so that you feel the romance and the magic of the home before anyone has said a word. We were lucky enough to photograph it for their branding and marketing, and honestly, it felt less like a job and more like being handed the keys to a storybook.


Here is the thing we hear from so many business owners before they book a branding session: "I love the idea, but I don't want it to feel stiff." They picture a gray backdrop, a forced smile, a product sitting alone on a white table. And we understand the hesitation, because that version of branding photography exists, and it tells nobody anything about who you are.

Good branding photography does the opposite. It tells the story of you, your space, and the feeling people get when they come into your world. Starrett House is a perfect example, because the feeling is the whole product.


So we did not shoot it like a catalog. We let the light move through those antique draperies and settle on the details. We photographed the sitting chairs the way a guest would find them at the end of a long day, inviting and a little bit dreamy. We wandered the restored rooms and captured the small things that make them special, because those small things are exactly what a future guest is scrolling for when they decide where to stay.


And then there is the tea. Starrett House makes its own custom teas in house, blends created to delight the senses and to bring the cozy, unhurried atmosphere of the home right into your cup. That is a story worth telling with care. We styled and photographed the teas as part of the whole experience, with steam and porcelain and soft window light, so that the product photography feels like a moment rather than an inventory shot. When a product is part of a bigger story, the photos should be too.

That is what we mean when we say branding should feel like home. When your photos carry the warmth, the texture, and the personality of your business, the right people feel it immediately. They do not just see what you sell. They feel what it would be like to be part of it.
