Some love stories don't go according to plan-and thank goodness for that.
April and Shay originally envisioned an intimate elopement tucked away in the wild beauty of Mt. Hood. Just the two of them, the mountains, and that quiet, sacred kind of "just us" magic. But somewhere along the way, their plans shifted-not out of obligation, but out of love.
Because there was someone they couldn't imagine not being there: April's grandmother.
And just like that, their elopement bloomed into something bigger. Not less intimate, just more expansive. More layered. More them.
Instead of a single venue, April and Shay rented three cozy Airbnbs tucked into the landscape around Mt. Hood. What unfolded wasn't just a wedding, but a full, immersive weekend with their favorite people. And when we say that friends and family didn't just attend, they showed UP, we mean it! Everyone helped set up the ceremony, arranged details, and poured love into every corner of the day. And the result was a celebration that felt like a warm, glowing, joy-filled hangout. The kind where you kick off your shoes, grab a drink, and never want to leave.
If there was a palette that matched a couple's energy, this was it. Think vibrant fall tones-lush blushes and playful pinks layered with rich jewel tones that felt both bold and romantic. Their tablescapes were dripping in personality from textured linens, glimmering crystals, and elegant candelabras catching the mountain light. It was giving editorials. It was giving cozy lux. And it was DEFINITELY giving "Pinterest wedding of my dreams".
The beauty of this kind of wedding is that it doesn't end after the ceremony; it unfolds. After April and Shay said their vows, the celebration melted seamlessly into an evening that felt more like your favorite kind of get together than a traditional reception.
There was dinner shared around tables filled with laughter. Games that brought out everyone's competitive (and chaotic) side. A bonfire crackling into the night, complete with gooey s'mores. Someone picked up a guitar, while someone else manned the bubble guns. And just like that, the night turned into a memory you wish you could bottle up and keep forever. Iconic is the only way to describe this fun and down to earth reception.
If you know April and Shay, none of this is surprising. For their engagement session, they took us to an arcade bar-one of their very first date spots. It was playful, nostalgic, a little chaotic, and completely full of life. So much life that they left our engagement session to go catch a concert! These two are always having fun, making memories, and bringing friends and family along for the laughs and adventures.
It only makes sense that their wedding followed suit.
What could've been a moment of disappointment-pivoting away from the private elopement of their dreams-became something so much richer. April and Shay didn't lose the intimacy they wanted, they simply expanded it and created a space for connection, legacy, and for the people who matter most. They made sure April's grandmother got to witness something incredibly special, and in doing so, built a weekend full of memories that will live far beyond a single day.
Your wedding doesn't have to fit in a box. It doesn't have to look like anyone else's. And sometimes, the best stories come from the moments where you pivot.
April and Shay chose love-in every direction. And what they created wasn't just a wedding, it was a feeling. We're so beyond lucky and honored for having the incredible task of documenting it all for them.
Cheers to Love, Family, and the Pursuit of all things Happy.
