Your wedding day will go by in the blink of an eye (seriously-blink and you're already at the dance floor!), but your photos? They last forever. And Ever. And Ever. That's why it's so important to make sure your photographer captures every sweet, swoon-worthy, tear-jerking, champagne-popping moments. Whether you're deep in wedding planning or just dreaming of the big day, this guide is your go-to list of must-have shots and timeless poses that help tell the full story-from butterflies during bridal prep to barefoot dancing under the stars.

1) The Getting Ready Glow-Up

There's something magical about the quiet buzz of wedding morning-your besties in matching robes, the scent of fresh florals, the pop of a champagne bottle. Make sure your photographer captures the little details: your dress hanging in the window, your shoes, your invitation suite, and all those candid moments of laughter and nerves with your favorite people. Grooms-don't sleep on these shots either! That last button on the suit jacket? It's giving leading man energy. And we absolutely love to see it!

Bonus Tip: worried about the morning feeling too rushed? Don't want to dodge a bunch of questions from your photographer about where everything is? We recommend having a "details" box set up for them before they arrive! We tell our clients to try and include their: invitation suite, wedding jewelry, wedding rings & boxes, spare florals, greenery and/or boutonnieres, wedding scents, vow books, cufflinks, and any other items you want incorporated (lockets with photos of past loved ones, blinged out mementos from wedding events, etc).

2) The First Look (Or That First Glance Down the Aisle)

Whether you're doing a private first look, a private prayer, or a private vow reading (trend alert! this last option has been SO popular with brides lately!), or saving that big reaction for the aisle, this is the moment that gets us every time. Eyes meet. Hearts race. Tears might fall. The emotion is raw and real-and it deserves to be beautifully documented.

Bonus Tip: if your photographer works with a team or with associate photographers, ask them to capture both perspectives-yours and your partner's!

3) Ceremony Snaps with Heart

The big kiss is a no-brainer, but there are so many blink-and-you'll-miss-it gems during your ceremony. The way your partner looks at you during your vows, the proud faces in the front row, the joyful walk back up the aisle as just married newlyweds-make sure your photo coverage includes all of it. We're talking smiles, sniffles, and standing ovations. Don't hesitate to ask your photographers for those dynamic and editorial angles. We are here to tell your story, just as you have envisioned it!

4) Timeless Couples Portraits (You Know, the Frame-Worthy Ones)

This is your time to shine! We recommend planning for at least 20-30 minutes (though we find the sweet spot to be closer to 40min-1hr) of just-the-two-of-you portraits. Think: golden hour glows, sweeping veil moments, forehead kisses, and twirls that feel straight out of a fairytale. Ask your photographer for a mix of candid movement (walking hand in hand, giggling mid-spin) and more composed editorial shots ( a soft gaze, a quiet embrace). These are the moments you'll return to again and again.

5) The People You Love Most

We're all about the you two, but we're also here for the people who got you there-family, friends, fur babies, and chosen fam. From Classic family portraits to joyful, silly bridal party moments (hello champagne spray!), don't forget to prioritize these shots. Whether they are candid or pre-planned, we never want to forget about those who got us where we are today and made us who we are today. If you opt for closer to an hour for your bridal portraits, the last 30 min is a perfect time to squeeze the fam in for a few pics!

Bonus Tip: provide your photographer with a list (bonus points if that lists includes some pictures to ID with) of al the "must-get" people and combos so nothing's missed in the hustle!

6) All the In-Between Moments

Some of the most memorable photos aren't posed at all-they're stolen glances, mid-laugh giggles, hands squeezing during toasts, and guests tearing it up in the dance floor. These candids are what give your gallery that real, lived-in, full-of-life energy. Let your photographer know you want them to capture the atmosphere, the emotion, and the magic in the messy moments too.

At the end of the day, your wedding photos should feel like you. All the love, joy, silliness, and sparkle that made your day one of a kind. SO make your must have-list, fill your detail boxes, trust your photographer, and don't be afraid to get a little adventurous. You're not just planning a wedding-you're creating a story. And we're here to help make sure every single chapter gets captured beautifully.
